The Heyman Family - Together Again

Big thanks to "cousin" Laraine Sweberg, who has shared many new "old" photos of family members, some of which are yet to be unidentified. One of these where we have identified the people in the shot is a family photo of the Heymans at an early age. Laraine got many of these photos from her aunt, Regina Sternbach, who had three bags full of old photos.

This photo includes Isidore Heyman and his wife Ernestine Bernstein Heyman, daughter of Sara Braunhart Bernstein. The children in the photo left to right are: Arthur Heyman, baby Wilhelmina (Mynette) Heyman, Celia Heyman (my grandmother), Leo Heyman, and Martha Heyman. The photo was probably taken in 1908. Wilhelmina (the baby) was born in August of 1907, and the photo was taken in Brooklyn. The Heymans relocated to Oakland, California some time in 1910.

And thanks to Clyde Pound, son of the baby in the photo - Wilhelmina (Mynette) Heyman, for authenticating the photo.

The Alexander and Helene Braunhart Family

With great appreciation to Laraine Sweberg and Miriam Brunn for providing this photo of most of the family of Alexander and Helene Braunhart:
Alexander Braunhart Helene Baszynska Jacob Frieda Cecelia Selma Philipp Carl Theodor Martha Anna
If you notice, the names of the family members are written at the bottom of the photo. This must have been taken in 1903 or 1904 since Frieda Braunhart, the toddler in the photo, was born in 1902.

Now the question remains - where is Julius Braunhart and Moritz Braunhart and where is Philipp Braunhart? In their Uncle Samuel Braunhart's will, Julius and Moritz are mentioned as is Bernhard, but Philipp is not, which leads one to believe that possibly Philipp and Bernhard are the same person.

The mystery continues!

Welcome to the Newest Braun(Hart) - Grandson of Carl!

Hooray for Herbert Hart! Thank you for finding us! Or us finding you! Herb is the grandson of Carl and Hedwig Braunhart. Carl, the son of Alexander and Helene Braunhart, owned a bicycle shop in Schubin - the 1913 photo of his shop as well as several Braunhart family members is below:

Carl Braunhart Bicycle Shop Schubin Germany ca1913
Carl is the man in the doorway. The clock bears his name. After Carl's immigration in 1938 and 1939 (he left Germany in 1938 and arrived on January 2, 1939), he opened a bicycle shop in Brooklyn. He changed his last name to Hart and refused to speak German to anyone but his family. As his only daughter had perished in Auschwitz, this reaction was certainly understandable.

So we have found a new relative. It would be silly to welcome him to a family he already has been a part of, but at least we can welcome Herb to the "genealogy" family!
